Claude Exporter Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 28, 2026
Claude Exporter is a Chrome extension that saves a Claude conversation, selected messages or a single response as a PDF, Markdown or Word file, or copies it to the clipboard. It is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or provided by Anthropic. This policy covers the extension and this website, claudeexporter.com. "We" means the developer of Claude Exporter. Contact: nikoscwsapps@gmail.com.
In short:
- No developer server receives your discussions. The extension reads the conversation you choose from claude.ai with your own session, processes it in your browser and creates the file on your device.
- The extension sends usage events to our server, such as the chosen format and whether an export worked. They are tied to a random install ID, not to your name, email or Claude account, and never include chat content, titles, file names or claude.ai addresses.
- This website measures visits without cookies or anything else stored on your device.
- We do not sell data. You can ask us to delete the data linked to your install ID.
The extension
What it reads and processes on your device
When you open the export panel, the extension reads the selected conversation from claude.ai using your existing Claude session: message and response text, message structure, the conversation title, images and the descriptions of attached or generated files. It may use organization and conversation identifiers in memory to request that content from Claude. These requests go to claude.ai, not to us. The extension does not read your password and does not store your cookies.
The content is processed in browser memory to build the export you asked for. Fonts and processing code are bundled with the extension; remote third-party images and scripts are not fetched to reproduce a document. Downloaded files and ZIP archives stay where your browser or operating system saves them, and copied text stays on your clipboard. Files may contain personal or confidential information from your conversation; you decide whether to share, upload, sync or delete them.
What it stores on your device
The extension uses chrome.storage.local only, never Chrome sync:
- a random install ID, the day it was installed and the version that created the record (for installs that predate version 0.2.0, the record is created on the first update and the install day is unknown);
- usage events waiting to be sent: at most 500, kept for at most 7 days;
- counters of exports, copies and opened export panels, and the day each once-a-day event was last sent;
- the remote settings described below, kept for up to 12 hours;
- two preferences: that you dismissed the getting-started tip, and that you already clicked a rating star, so the rating prompt does not appear again. The rating itself is not stored.
No conversation text, titles, identifiers or files are stored. Removing the extension deletes all of this.
What it sends
The extension's background service worker sends events in batches to our API at api.claudeexporter.com. Sending starts right after installation or an update. Each batch carries:
- the random install ID. It is created by the extension and is not linked to your Google or Claude account;
- technical context: the extension version, whether it is the Chrome Web Store build or a development build, Chrome's install type, the install day, the browser family and major version, the operating system family, the CPU family and the browser's interface language;
- usage events. Every value comes from a fixed list or is a number:
- installed, updated (with the previous version) and, once a day, active, with the number of exports, copies and opened panels since the previous day and the days since installation;
- whether the extension reached claude.ai, the kind of page (a chat, a new chat, a project page or another page, worked out from the shape of the address, never the address itself) and whether you appear to be signed in (yes, no or unknown, never your account);
- whether the Export chat and Export response buttons were placed and seen on screen, or could not be placed; how many claude.ai tabs that were already open got the buttons after installation or an update;
- the export panel opening, closing or failing to load, with a reason code;
- exports and copies: the format, whole chat or one response, all, some or one message, the number of messages as a range (1, 2–5, 6–20, 21–100, 101+), the file size as a range, whether the selection had code, math, artifacts, attachments or images (yes or no), whether a ZIP was made, how long it took, and whether it finished, failed (with the step and a failure code) or was cancelled;
- the rating prompt being shown and the number of stars clicked; clicks on "Report a problem"; the toolbar popup opening and which of its links was clicked;
- once, for installs updated from version 0.1.x: whether the getting-started tip had been dismissed and whether a rating star had been clicked;
- error reports: a cleaned error message (quoted text, addresses, email addresses, identifiers, long numbers and non-Latin text are removed before it leaves the browser), an 8-character fingerprint and locations in the extension's own code.
Our server adds the country, which Cloudflare derives from the connection. The IP address is used in memory only, as a rate-limit key hashed with a secret, and is never logged, stored or forwarded.
We can switch sending, error reports or the sampling of one frequent event on and off remotely. These remote settings are plain data, never code.
What it never sends
- Message or response text
- Chat or project titles
- Organization, conversation, project or message IDs
- File names or file contents
- claude.ai URLs or paths
- Model names
- Account email or name
- IP addresses
- Cookies
Pages the extension opens
All links go through claudeexporter.com/go/, which redirects to the current page:
- On first install, the extension opens our welcome page once. Its address carries the extension version and the install ID, so the visit is joined to the install. Updates and restarts do not open it.
- When you remove the extension, Chrome opens our uninstall page with the version and the install ID. Our server records the removal once per install ID, and the page offers a one-question survey.
- "Report a problem" opens our help form. After a download or copy, the panel may show "Rate us": four or five stars open the extension's reviews page in the Chrome Web Store, one to three stars open our feedback form. These links carry the version (the help link also where you clicked it), never the install ID.
Permissions
storage: the data listed above, on your device.alarms: wakes the service worker every 15 minutes to send queued events, so they are not lost when the browser was offline.scriptingwith access tohttps://claude.ai/*: after installation or an update, adds the extension's own packaged script to claude.ai tabs that are already open, so the buttons appear without reloading the page.
The extension runs only on claude.ai. Chrome shows one warning for it: "Read and change your data on claude.ai". It does not request access to other websites, your tabs, cookies, downloads or browsing history, and it does not run remote code.
This website
Analytics without cookies
claudeexporter.com uses PostHog, hosted in the EU, through a proxy on this domain (claudeexporter.com/ingest). Measurement stores nothing on your device: no cookies, no local storage and no session storage. PostHog's random visitor ID, and on the welcome and uninstall pages the install ID from the link, live only in the open page's memory and are gone when you reload or leave the page, so separate visits, a reload included, are not linked. There is no session recording, no web performance measurement and no cookie banner. We record page views and a few events: the welcome page shown and its "Open Claude" button clicked; the uninstall page shown, the reason chosen in the survey and whether text was added (never the text), a send without a reason, and leaving without sending; the help page shown; a form accepted by our server. A reload counts as a new page view. Development and preview copies of this site send nothing.
The only thing this website keeps on your device is the star count on the rating follow-up page: the browser's session storage for that tab holds it so that your form still shows your rating after a reload, and the browser deletes it when the tab closes. It serves that form only; analytics never reads it.
On the welcome and uninstall pages, the install ID is removed from the address before analytics starts and is used only to join that page view to the install; IP-based location is turned off for visits joined to an install; and the ID is stripped from every address analytics would record. After a reload the page no longer has the install ID, so that visit is not joined to the install. PostHog may receive the visitor's IP address with each request; our project discards client IP addresses, so they are not stored. For visits not joined to an install, PostHog may derive an approximate location, such as the country, before the address is discarded.
Forms
- The uninstall survey: one reason and an optional text of up to 1,000 characters. It carries the install ID from the uninstall link when there is one.
- "Report a problem" on the help page: a text of up to 2,000 characters and where you clicked the link (the panel or the popup).
- The rating follow-up: the number of stars (1–3) and an optional text of up to 2,000 characters.
Each answer is stored with the extension version from the link, the country Cloudflare derives from the connection and the time it was received, never the IP address.
What you type goes through api.claudeexporter.com to our database only, never to analytics; analytics records only the survey reason or the star count and whether text was added. No form asks for your email address. If you want a reply, write to nikoscwsapps@gmail.com. Please do not paste conversations, passwords or session tokens into a form. Forms are protected from spam by rate limits and a hidden field; if we turn on Cloudflare Turnstile, Cloudflare checks the browser and the check token is never stored.
Other
Fonts are served from this domain; the site makes no requests to Google Fonts. Links to the Chrome Web Store and to claude.ai lead to services with their own privacy terms. Our Workers do not log IP addresses, headers, query strings or request bodies (see below).
Where data goes and how long it is kept
- Cloudflare runs our network and our Workers: the API at api.claudeexporter.com and this website, including its www redirect. Worker request logs are off and query strings are removed from logs; our own log lines hold only a request ID, the path, the status, an error code and the caller, and are kept as Cloudflare's plan allows (3 days on the free plan, 7 days on paid plans).
- Convex is our database, in the EU (AWS eu-west-1, Ireland). Raw events are kept for 30 days. Install records and hourly summaries are kept until 13 months after the install's last event. Form answers are kept for 13 months. There are no backups.
- PostHog Cloud EU holds analytics, dashboards, alerts and error reports. It keeps events and pseudonymous install profiles as long as our PostHog plan retains them (seven years on our current paid plan).
- Google provides us with aggregate Chrome Web Store statistics for the listing. They are not combined with our events.
- On your device, queued events are kept for at most 7 days and remote settings for 12 hours; the rest stays until you remove the extension.
These providers process data on our behalf. We do not share it with anyone else unless the law requires it.
How we use data
We use this data only to provide and improve the extension's single purpose, exporting the Claude conversations you choose: to count installs and active use, find errors and exports that fail, see which formats and options are used, and read the answers you send us. We do not sell or rent data, do not use it for advertising or profiling, and do not use or transfer it to determine creditworthiness or for lending. The use of information received through Claude Exporter complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Your choices and deletion
- Removing the extension stops all sending and deletes the data it stored on your device. Files you downloaded are not affected.
- To delete the data linked to your install, email nikoscwsapps@gmail.com with your install ID. The extension's toolbar popup shows the ID; click it to copy the full ID. We delete the install record, its events, summaries and survey answers from our database, then the matching profile and events from PostHog, and confirm by email. You can also ask what we hold for that ID.
- Problem reports and rating follow-ups do not carry an install ID. To have one deleted, quote what you wrote.
Children
Claude Exporter and this website are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child sent us information through a form, write to us and we will delete it.
Changes
When what we process changes, we update this policy before releasing the change and update the effective date above.
