Where the buttons are, what to try when something goes wrong, and how to tell us.
Export a chat
- Open the conversation on claude.ai.
- Click Export chat next to its title, or Export response below one answer.
- Choose the content and a format: PDF, Markdown or Word.
- Check the preview, then download or copy.
The buttons don't appear
- Open a conversation. The empty start page has no export buttons.
- Check that Claude Exporter is on at
chrome://extensionsand may run on claude.ai. - Reload the Claude tab once. If the buttons are still missing, report it below.
Questions
Where are the export buttons?
Export chat sits next to the conversation title. Export response sits in the row of actions below each Claude answer. Open a conversation: the empty start page has neither.
Can I save only part of a chat?
Yes. In the panel, choose Entire conversation, Claude responses only or Selected messages and tick the ones you want. Export response starts with that one answer.
Which formats can I use?
PDF for reading and sharing, Markdown for notes and editors, Word for editing. Copy puts the selection on your clipboard as formatted text, Markdown or plain text.
What comes through?
Headings, lists, tables, links and code. PDF adds syntax colors for recognized languages and renders equations. Thinking and tool activity are left out.
Are images and files included?
Include images is on by default. Available generated files and attached files can go into a ZIP with the document. Anything missing is named in the panel, never silently left out.
Can I export all my chats at once?
No. Claude Exporter saves the conversation you have open, one at a time, and never collects your history in the background.
Do my chats go to your server?
No. The file is made in your browser with your existing Claude session. The extension sends anonymous usage events, such as the chosen format and whether an export worked, never chat content, titles or files.
Is this made by Anthropic?
No. Claude Exporter is an independent extension, not affiliated with or endorsed by Anthropic.
